Me quedé dormido.

Off to Spain

I have planned since elementary school to go on a study abroad during college; and yet, with all those years of expectations, it still has not sunk in that my adventure begins in just a few days. I have traveled a fair amount before, but this experience will be very different. I will no longer have my parents to show me around... and foot the bill. I will have to fly and communicate on my own. I will live with a family who has a different culture and language.

And yet, it is for all theses reasons (and more) that I so look forward to the experience. I have taken three semesters of college Spanish, and yet I did not make a very conscious effort to learn the language well. Now, I can no longer allow for such laziness. Practicing my Spanish will not be a menial task, it will be a necessity. So my greatest fears regarding communication will lead to my greatest growth.

The other thing I am most excited about is my ability to explore a new place. I look forward to finding a favorite restaurant or sunny bench in the park that is perfect for reading. I look forward to making new friends, both American and Spanish, and allowing Oviedo to capture my heart. There is so much of the world to see, but I would rather experience an area than check landmarks off my to-do list.

The adventure begins soon, stay tuned for more!
